Deciding to expand its reach into the global market, a state controlled energy giant faced the new challenge of competing for market share in a new and increasingly turbulent and competitive environment. The growing need to develop an entrepreneurial spirit to improve global competitiveness required a new perspective. That’s where Adder Group came in.
With rapid advances in communications and computing technology, global industry is undergoing an unprecedented transformation. Supply chains, distribution channels and markets are increasingly open to wider reach of smaller players. With decreasing transaction costs and increasingly adaptive competition, a large organizational structure can be a liability if it stands in the way of continuous improvement and innovation. To thrive in a changing environment, organizations of every size and category should seek to develop a more entrepreneurial mindset.
We undertook a complete leadership analysis and developed leadership profiles from middle managers up. Based on our findings, we developed a program to form cross-functional expertise at the mid-management level; foster communication across departments; and encourage seeking change as a source of opportunity for improvement. Adder Group developed a program to identify and train future leaders and suggested compensation, evaluation and promotion methodology to foster entrepreneurial development.
The methodical approach to fostering entrepreneurial leadership and innovation produced immediate success. Once rare, within two quarters cross-departmental communication flourished at mid-management level. Time for flow of information up and across organizational layers was reduced by nearly 40%, creating a more nimble enterprise.
More importantly, the new philosophy to exploit change as opportunity resulted in a measurable increase in employee satisfaction at all layers of the organization.
